You do not need to buy music to get started. BoxWherever includes five original songs and a guided training round. Open the app on your Quest and choose an included song from the library. Find BoxWherever on Meta Horizon Store.

Ready for a favourite? Studio needs the actual audio file on your computer or phone. A playlist link, a song preview or an offline download inside a streaming subscription will not work.

What kind of file works?

Use a DRM-free file: an audio download that is not locked to a retailer’s app. BoxWherever accepts MP3, M4A/AAC, WAV, OGG, FLAC, Opus and WebM, up to 50 MB per song. MP3 and purchased M4A files are convenient choices.

Spotify and Apple Music subscription downloads cannot be uploaded. An iTunes Store purchase is different, even though you use the Apple Music app to find it. If you only stream a particular song, look for a separate download purchase of that recording.

Buy and download a song on Mac

  1. Open Music and sign in with your Apple Account. If iTunes Store is hidden, open Music → Settings → General and enable it.
  2. Search for the song, select iTunes Store in the search results, check the artist and recording, then click its price to purchase.
  3. Download the purchase. For a song you already bought, choose Account → Purchased (or Family Purchases), then Songs and its download button. Authorize the Mac if Apple asks.
  4. Select the downloaded song in your library and choose File → Show in Finder. Upload that purchased audio file to Studio.

Buy and download a song on Windows

  1. Open Apple Music and sign in. If needed, use Sidebar Actions → Settings → General to show iTunes Store.
  2. Search for the recording and select iTunes Store, then its price to buy and download it. A subscription’s Add or Listen option is not a file purchase.
  3. Under Songs, open the song’s More (…) → Show in Explorer menu. If that option is missing, check that the purchase has finished downloading.
  4. Upload the file revealed in Explorer. You can also find its location under More (…) → Properties → File.

Still using the older iTunes application? Buy through its Store, download through Account → Purchased, then use File → Show in Windows Explorer.

Other places to get a downloadable song

Bandcamp

Buy the track or album on the artist’s Bandcamp page. Use the download link in your receipt or your collection on the website, select MP3, and save the download. Extract an album’s ZIP file before choosing a song. Saving music for offline listening inside Bandcamp’s mobile app is a different process. Bandcamp download help.

Amazon Digital Music

Look for an MP3 purchase of the song. Download the purchased track from your Amazon Music library using the purchase-download option, then locate the MP3 on your device. Prime and Music Unlimited offline downloads do not supply a file for Studio. Store availability and download options vary by country. Amazon’s purchased-music download help.

Qobuz

Use the download store to buy the recording. Open your purchases and use its download options or Qobuz Downloader to save MP3 or FLAC files. Choose an individual track under 50 MB for Studio. A streaming subscription’s offline copy is separate. Qobuz download help.

Turn your file into a boxing map

  1. Open Studio. Create an account and pair your Quest first if you have not already.
  2. Under Use your own music, choose the downloaded file or drag it onto the upload area. On a phone, the file must be available in your device’s Files app; purchasing and locating an iTunes file is usually easier on a computer.
  3. Choose your scene and intensity, then press Map It! Once ready, your new map appears in the Quest library.

One song makes one map. Combine maps into a workout when you want them to play back to back. You can also use your paired account’s complimentary AI song creation to make an original song.

If your song will not upload

  • No file to select? Return to the store’s purchased-download area. Being able to play a song inside an app does not mean you have downloaded an uploadable file.
  • Protected or unreadable audio? Check that it is the purchased copy, not a subscription download. Some older purchases remain protected. Changing the filename or extension does not remove protection.
  • File too large? Choose a smaller MP3 download from the retailer where offered, and extract ZIP archives before uploading.
  • Using a Community Map? Follow its exact recording instructions. A different edit, remaster or live version may not match its timing.
